TEACHING STRATEGY IN HIGHER EDUCATION

ACTIVE LEARNING IN HIGHER EDUCATION

Propose a teaching strategy for a subject you teach (or will teach) or for one which you support with design/development, considering your experience of FULT peer observation, ideas introduced in this course and in the FULT program in general. (Approximately 300 words)

I think there are a number of advantages to teach in an active way. According to my experience one is, if we focus on the enjoyment for learning we will accord all learners really have fun through problem-solving exercises, informal small groups, simulations, case studies, role playing, and other activities. I mean Active learning enhances student satisfaction with the learning experience.

At the same time time they can practice  Collaborative learning, both peer work or group work  which  increases student’s learning outcomes  and promote students cultural diversity interaction and familiarity.
Moreover, learners  get engage to their own learning  and it can be said that studies show that learning is enhanced when students become actively involved in the learning process.

Although there are times when lecturing is the most appropriate method for spreading information, to me for example to teach grammar. And in blended learning contexts, active learning only works during face-to-face classes because student’s platform is a personal tool and space to manage at his/her own pace. Apart from that I try to foster a safe environment supported by clear expectations and positive relationships among teacher- students and students-students in order to promotes a positive attitude toward the subject matter.

In conclusión, I believe than even active learning strategy has some disadvantages, the advantages are more, since students learn more by being active and involved.
Finally, in my opinión teachers must create an environment where student work is valued, appreciated and used as a learning tool to get deep learning.
